The "official" tracking path for Hurricane Ike (NOAA).

The eye of the storm went directly over Seabrook. As the eye
approached Seabrook the water was pushed out of the bay and onto land
(this is the "surge"). As the eye passed Seabrook the wind
direction changed and sucked the water out of the houses. Our
house is listed at 11 feet above sea level. The house is 3 feet
above the street level. We had 1 foot of water in our house,
which means it was a 15 foot storm surge.

Front porch to our house. Notice the brown water line on the black shutters.

The inside water line was almost 14". This is in the back of the house near the new sunroom.

The water covered all of the electronics, but not the new TV. The
brown mud on the tile was pervavisive throughout EVERYTHING.

Kitchen cabinets. Bowls still had water in them.

This shows the waterline in the garage. The Blazer was relatively
unhurt, we just had to have new carpeting put in. We drove Beth's Mini
Cooper to the airport so it had no damage. The water lin in the garage was 25".

The motorcycle is totalled. You can see the wateline was just below the seat.

This is debris that we removed from the house. There is a LOT
that was not shown in this picture (sheet rock, kitchen cabinets,
appliances, etc.).

The whole street was lined with debris.

Large trucks with crans had to be used for debris cleanup.

This is the kitchen and dining area as we were cleaning up.
Notice the brown cabinets and the brick enclosing the stove and
oven. The floors are white tile, the brown stuff is mud from the
flood.

This is the same view as the previous picture. The walls had to
be ripped out 4 feet from the bottom for new sheetrock. This
was our kitchen and dining area. You can see the sink pipes on
the right and the discolored wall where the brick oven and stove
enclosures were. Notice that you can see a gutter hanging on the
window on the right.

We lost a large tree in the back yard. It has about a 4 foot
diameter trunk. The tree knocked down the power to the house too.
We were without power for a little over two weeks.
Thankfully Henry Salem let me borrow a generator.

The wind did a little damage to the house, but not too much. The flood was much worse than the wind.

This is a picture of Rick's office building. Fortunately my
office is on the other side of this building and is okay. The
building has been closed for over 3 weeks now (as of October 5, 2008)
and I don't know when it will reopen.

This is Highway 146 just south of Nasa Road 1. This is less than
5 miles from our house. (I did not take this picture).

This is the Clear Creek Channel in Seabrook. To the right is
Galveston Bay. Our house is about 2 miles from here. (I did
not take this picture).
